Beginners Silkscreen Class (Adults)
Learn the ins and outs of silkscreen. Go in depth in the processing of screen printing, from poster production, basic T-shirt design, or as an art form. This class will show you the ways to screen print from your own home with a few tools and thin wallet. The end result will be a Rhapsody Arts Center Gallery show for all adult students.
January 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st from 6-9pm

The Art of Drawing: Beginner to Advanced (Adult)
Drawing is the foundation for all the visual arts. This two-day
workshop is for those who want to develop better drawing skills
and gain more pleasure in the drawing process. There will be
basic lessons for beginners and challenges for the more advanced
students. Kay will help you to expand your abilities and develop an
individual drawing style, learn ways to loosen up, learn to see and
measure accurately, and learn some principles of perspective. We
will explore gestural and expressive mark-making, exaggeration or
distortion, and co-operative drawing using the basic drawing tools
of graphite, charcoal, pen, and ink. Some materials will be
provided by the instructor, a supply list will be sent to you.
January 12-13, Saturday and Sunday from 9am-4:30pm.

Paint Your Pet (K-5th)
An art class for the younger artist to explore different painting techniques. Bring a picture of your pet or pets and use it as a fun source of inspiration for painting.
January 15th, 22nd, 29th from 4-6pm

Adult Figure Drawing (18 and up)
Draw the human figure from live models. Learn the basics or
brush up on your drawing skills. Rich will cover a wide range of
mediums: pencil, pastels, charcoal and paint. An easy, laid-back
atmosphere focusing on what you want to accomplish in class. No
homework and no grades—the perfect class! The end result will
be a Rhapsody Arts Center Gallery show for all adult students in
March.

Introduction to Acrylic Painting (Adult)
Acrylic is a wonderful painting medium; it is versatile, has lowodor,
and is fast-drying. In this workshop, Kay will cover the
basics of mixing colors, using mediums, and learning to blend and
layer color. On the first day, you will learn about color and get
acquainted with the medium through some short, work-along
exercises, and begin a painting from a still life or your own
photographic references (depending upon ability). The second day
will be devoted to completing your painting, with lots of individual
attention. Some materials will be provided; a supply list will be
sent to you.
January 25-26, Friday and Saturday from 9am-4:30pm

Trashy Art (K-5)
Take that junk drawer at home and create a masterpiece. In the
spirit of Folk and Outsider art, Rich will teach you how to turn
normal items into wonderful pieces of art. The perfect class that
doesn’t need a trip to the art store. Just a little glue and paint and
our imagination and you’re on your way.
February 5, 19 and 26 from 4-6pm.

Middle School Art Class
Learn the secrets of creating realist and stylized art using the tricks
of the trade. Feel your art skills are lacking? Rich will show you
methods to drastically improve your skills. The class will cover
drawing and painting using many different materials. Draw or paint
what you want—the class will show you how to get it done.
February 14, 21 and 28 from 4-6pm.

Future Fashion Designers Wanted (Middle and High School)
Learn how to create your own line of clothing. Using stencils,
spray paint, dye, a computer, copy machine and silkscreen, Rich
will teach you how to produce your own T-shirts, ties, scarves,
pants and hats. Basic white and gray T-shirts provided.
February 13, 20 and 27 from 4-6pm.

Learn How to Draw (2-5 grade)
Take your drawing skills to a new level! Learn the secrets in
becoming a better artist through techniques that never fail. Each
class will build your skills and knowledge on becoming a better
artist. Draw with pencil, markers, color pencils and oil pastels to
create dramatic images that will be worthy of hanging in any
gallery.
March 4, 11 and 18 from 4-6pm

Open Adult Figure Drawing Class (18 and up)
An open studio figure drawing class for all levels of artists. This
class will allow you to work in any medium in an open
environment. Rhapsody Gallery will arrange the model and each
artist will bring their own supplies and easel. A class for advanced
students and beginners. An instructor will be on site for those
who need assistance.
March 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 7-10pm
$15-20 to cover model cost at each session.

Private Art Lessons

Photo Emulsion Screen Printing (High School and up)
This class will focus on photo emulsion screen-printing. Rich will
teach you how to create multi-colored prints using a digital
camera, computer and a copy machine. A great class for future
graphic artists looking to create T-shirts, posters or use screenprinting
as an art form.
March 6, 13 and 20 from 6-9pm with open studio Sundays.

Introduction to Soft Pastel (Adult)
Many students “fall in love” with pastels after taking this workshop!
Soft pastels are fun to use, colorful, versatile, immediate, and very
expressive. Kay will introduce you to this fascinating dry painting
medium through a variety of exercises on different papers. Learn
how to use solvents and fixative to enhance your images. You’ll
complete three different works in this one-day studio workshop,
including a densely-colored painting on sanded paper. Every
workshop participant will experience ample personal attention as
well as fun and positive group interaction. All paper for this
workshop will be provided; a supply list will be sent to you.
March 8, Saturday, 9am-4:30pm

Pastel Interpretations (Adult)
Soft pastel is a very adaptable medium and is perfect for learning
different painting techniques. In this studio workshop, you will do
several different interpretations from the same photographic
reference using different papers. Each work in your series will be
quite unlike the others—you won’t believe you had it in you!—
consequently, you’ll learn which styles and techniques might work
best for your own artistic “vision.” All paper for this workshop
will be provided; a supply list will be sent to you.
March 9, Sunday, 9am-4:30pm

Beyond the Photo (Adult)
At some point, most artists use photographs as references for
their paintings and drawings. This class will show you various ways
to work from photos creatively, rather than simply copying the
image before you. We will explore modifying elements, changing
colors, and other experimental applications. Bring your own
photographic references or use photos from Kay’s collection.
Work in your favorite painting or drawing medium, as well as
trying a few new things provided by the instructor. A supply list
will be sent to you.
March 29, Saturday, 9am-4:30pm

Studio Landscape Painting in Acrylic (Adult)
This studio workshop is for those with some previous experience
in painting in acrylic, oil or watercolor. We will do some quick
paint sketches on paper to warm up, and then you will learn to
paint with acrylic on canvas in the direct “a la prima” style from
your own photographic landscape references. The direct
approach is both visual and intuitive and encourages great personal
expression. Some materials provided; a supply list will be sent to
you.
April 6-7, Sunday afternoon, 1-4:30pm and Monday, 9am-4:30pm.

Paper Mache Sculpture Class (K-5)
Let’s make a mess! Create wonderful paper mache masks and
creatures using everything from newspaper to toothpicks. The
class will show how to properly construct each mold with paint,
fabric, glitter and yarn.

Basic Adult Drawing Class (Adults)
If you have the drawing itch, but are making up excuses not to
scratch it, this class is your cure. A laid back atmosphere will help
you relieve you of our fears of drawing. The class will focus on
teaching you the skills to draw with confidence. Rich will break
drawing down to its simplest form while building up your abilities.
April 9, 16 and 23 from 6-9pm

Advance Screen Printing Class (High School and Adult)
A class for those who have screen printing experience but need a
tone up. The course will build upon your knowledge and help you
achieve your individual goals. Create your own curriculum—What
is it that you want to accomplish? Design and print event posters,
CD covers or a T-shirt line. Rich will construct this course
around what you need to learn and help you accomplish your
goals.
April 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 6-9pm with open studio Sundays.

Kids Painting Class (K-5)
Do you like painting flowers, tigers or even crazy space creatures?
Then I think this is the class for you! Take the next step in
creating beautiful paintings with this class. Each session will teach
you skills to become a better painter with basic direction and
practice. Learn how to plan your painting and how to match and
blend colors like a pro. Paint with watercolors, tempera and
acrylic paints on paper, board and canvas.
May 6, 13 and 20 from 4-6pm

Middle School Digital Photography
Do you love taking pictures, but not really capturing the moment?
This class will teach you how to always take a perfect picture.
Learn the basics of photography: lighting, exposure, focusing and
center of interest. We will also learn how to render images using
the computer. The class will teach you how to complete your
picture using Adobe Photoshop. Don’t have a digital camera? No
worries. A film camera will do just fine.
May 8, 15 and 22 from 4-6pm
Class will also include field trips on Sat/Sun to local parks and
Madison Zoo.
