For information on the differences between private lessons and group classes, please refer to the article, "One or More" (PDF format)

Group classes provide a fun musical encounter with other students. Research shows that most people learn best in groups. Interaction between students enhances healthy competition with more accurate musical ability and performance skills.

Focus on: keyboard/fret geography, technique, musicality, composition, accurate rhythm and note reading, theory, ear training, ensemble work, games, operettas, use of sequenced disks. Classical, jazz, traditional, popular, and contemporary music will be taught based on skill level.

Beginning Piano—This is our program where young students of similar skill and age learn piano in a group setting. Our state of the art digital piano lab is equipped with five pianos. The classes are 45 minutes long and meet weekly. Each class is limited to 5 students. Teaching methods are tailored to match the developmental stages of each age group. Throughout the course, students participate in musical games, flashcard races, learn musicianship and develop rhythmic and ear training skills to assist them in learning musical concepts. Classes are offered for two different age groups: 6-8 years and 9-12 years. Price includes materials.

Beginning Violin for Youngsters—Rhapsody's beginning violin class teaches music concepts by developing the ear, similar to the Suzuki method. Children are grouped by age and the groups meet twice a week on Wednesday/Friday. In addition to classes, each student will have a weekly 15-minute private lesson. Parents will attend and participate in the classes/lessons as well as direct practice with their child at home (Childcare may be provided upon request). Students are required to buy or rent a violin to bring to class and practice at home.

Learning music by ear is best achieved with children that are pre- or very-early reading age. School-aged children may benefit more from traditional violin lessons.

Throughout the course, students participate in supplemental age-appropriate activities, learn musicianship and develop rhythmic and ear training skills to assist them in learning musical concepts and ensemble playing. Price includes materials.

Partner Lessons are available for any instrument and all ages. They are classes of two that meet once weekly for 30 minutes. Curriculum is tailored to match each pair of students' learning style.
