AARON KATCHER

Guitar, Bass, Drums, Improvisation, Music Theory, Banjo

Aaron was self-taught on the guitar from age 14-20, learning skills mostly by ear off of recordings of his favorite guitar players, and the occasional book, or tip from a friend.

In college, he began taking his musical studies more seriously. While attending the UW-Madison, he studied classical guitar under Professor Caulderon, graduating with a BA in Music Performance in 2000. During college Aaron began giving lessons at the UW, briefly at Ward Brodt Music, and privately. After graduating Aaron began teaching full time at Good N Loud on Madison’s west side. During his five-plus years teaching there, he taught over 350 students, ranging in age from 8-60, of all skill levels. During this time he gigged with multiple bands playing all types of music including rock n roll, hard rock, country, jazz, and R&B.

In addition to his skills as a guitarist, Aaron also has experience performing and teaching other skills. He is a competent drummer, and bass player, and is currently starting to learn the banjo. Aaron also considers himself a computer guy, being experienced with the electronic side of music; he has recorded with multiple bands over the years, on the engineering side as well as the performing side.

Whether its teaching a young student about the basics of music and the guitar, preparing a high school graduate for a college audition, or reviving a adult students lost passion, Aaron provides a balanced lesson plan. He creates customized lessons, and although capable of working through method books with a student, he enjoys teaching theory, rhythm, composition, improvisation, and listening in his own unique way. He is a patient and mindful instructor. Aaron values the unique nature of music, and what it can bring as an enhancement to learning and life.
