Courtney’s studies and career has landed her as the Arts Coordinator at Arthouse Preschool in Waunakee, where she is responsible for curriculum in art, music, and Spanish for children ages three to five.
Early childhood art and music education has become an enduring passion for Courtney. She believes that providing young children with opportunities for creativity and self-expression will stimulate creative individual thought and instill a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
Courtney’s passion for the arts began with her study of Arts Communication at Dakota County Technical College. After obtaining her Associate Degree in Visual & Applied Design, she pursued an undergraduate teaching degree in Art Education, graduating cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2003.
After graduating, she was employed by the Verona Area School District as a K-5 art educator. While teaching in Verona, Courtney collaborated with art teachers to plan and organize art displays within the public schools and Youth Art Month. Courtney also participated in the SAR (Site Annual Report) bilingual committee to promote the bilingual program originally held at Sugar Creek Elementary School. During the summer, Courtney had the opportunity to provide private drawing instruction for gifted upper elementary and middle school students.
Courtney remains active in the arts community of the Madison area. In 2008, she participated in an art show with FAWEZA (Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia) to support the education of young women in Zambia. She also continues her studies to become fluent in Spanish, believing that the immersion of culture and language enhance the arts.
As an undergraduate, Courtney continued her study of the alto saxophone and performed and toured with the UW-River Falls Wind Ensemble and performed with the UW-River Falls Woodwind Ensemble.
